Fasting while hiking

Finding informations about fasting is not always easy, especially while your plans - hiking and fasting at the same time - are uncommon. I hope this post could help others.

First, here is a list of the websites that helped me most.
YgoY: A clear and well documented website about fasting, and health in general. Most of all the information I needed was there.
Kriya Yoga: The basics of what a fast brings, and the steps to start and stop one.
Dr. Ben Kim: An article about what a fast brings and how to do it.
Doctor Yourself: The benefits and steps to do a proper juice fasting.
HPS online: A commercial website about colon cleansing but that contains a lot of information in many health areas, including fasting.

Many people around the world recognize the cleaning virtues of fasting. The process is being accelerated by light physical exercises. Yoga and walking are good examples.
What I tried to do was tough physical exercise - hiking with a backpack of about 10 kg during many hours and under a hot sun - drinking only water during. It revealed to be too much, especially for my constitution: really thin, without nearly any fat. Here is how I felt.

I start decreasing food and selecting my aliments one week before leaving. At the time before starting the fast, I was only eating few fruits. To get used to the walking effort, I kept on eating during the first day of walk.
I then started the fast by drinking only water during the day and a half liter broth at night. I was feeling extremely tired. My nights were 12 hours long, with an additional nap at noon... The third day of fasting, I was unable to walk long distances. I then stayed in a village hoping I would recover enough to leave the next day. This was not the case and I broke the fast during the fourth day.

The fourth and fifth day were needed to recover. I ate fruit and vegetables, and I slept a lot. This shows that I have been really far into fatigue. Hopefully not too much: I knew the project dangerous and payed extreme care to my body signals.

If you are planning to do something similar and have some questions, I'll ready to help.
